The HiSeq 2500 System is an efficient, ultra-high-throughput sequencing system. It features two run modes, rapid run (2 lanes) and high-output run (8 lanes) mode. HiSeq 2500 has the ability to process one or two flow cells simultaneously.
 
Rapid run mode provides quick results, allows efficient processing of a limited number of samples, and offers support of longer paired-end 150 base pair reads, which enable a greater depth of coverage.

High-output mode allows to batch process > 4x more samples than rapid mode.
